Mountain Bike – Cross Country Race

Saturday, June 24th, 12:00pm – Forrestville Trailhead and Marquette Mountain

The annual MQT Trails Festival Cross Country Mountain bike race will take place on Saturday afternoon, June 25th, 2016. The event, carries on 20 years of tradition of racing on Marquette’s renowned South Trail system. The races utilize challenging singletrack terrain over ~14 and 31 miles courses.

Long Course 12:00pm

The 31 mile (approximate) point to point course will all new and exciting. The race will include multiple long climbs and technical sections and will be a true test of a mountain biker’s skill and stamina. The race will begin at the Noquemanon Trail Network, Forrestville Polebarn and will end at the Marquette Mountain Ski Hill.

The Format will be as follows – Racers will begin in Forrestville (Polebarn at Forrestville Ski Trail Head) and race to the end of Stage 1. Upon crossing the end of Stage 1 the racers time will stop and the racer will have an un-timed one hour block to ride their bike to the start of Stage 2 (Entrance of Black Trail off of the Iron Ore Heritage Trail near Holiday Inn Hotel). The transfer stage can be done as fast or slow as the racer wants as long as it is finished in under a half hour…. if you do not make it to the start of Stage 2 in under a half an hour you will be disqualified. Upon crossing the Start of Stage 2 the participants time will resume and the racer will finish the race at the Marquette Mountain Ski Hill. Afterwards both times will be added up and the shortest overall time wins.

Below are the two stage maps. Stage 1 is roughly 13 miles long and stage 2 is roughly 18 miles long, with at 2 mile transfer. Tons of fun, a little different, and all smiles.

ATTENTION: THESE MAPS ARE NEW AS OF 6/20/17. IF YOU’VE STUDIED THE OLD ONES MAKE SURE TO FOLLOW THE MAPS BELOW ON RACE DAY.

Short Course 12:00pm

The 14 mile (approximate) course includes many of the highlights from the long race while eliminating some of the long climbs and most technical sections. The race begins with the same initial lead out, but instead of the early climb it continues with a 1 1/2 mile two track to allow racers to sort out before entering the singletrack. The race course takes the same big loop that includes most of the Green and Red Loops of the south trails before crossing back under the highway for a little bit of ‘Gorge-ous Trail’ before finishing.
